The José Limón Dance Company Presents: The Time Is Now

The Time is Now is based on the themes and variation of: There is a Time. This reworking of the classic piece re-contextualizes the themes in the midst of the Spring/Summer of 2020. Human cycles are still circular, and humanity still triumphs, however strange and trying the mountains in between. Directors: Ben Fee and Kelly Puleio Editor: Ben Fee Sound Design and Audio Mix: Jeremy Costa Original Costumes Designs: Pauline Lawrence Artistic Director: Dante Puleio Choreography: José Limón Music: Norman Dello Joio* Reconstructor: Raphaël Boumaïla Rehearsal Director: Logan Kruger Guest Coach for "Laugh": Nina Watt Filming and Performers: The Limón Dance Company Joseph Columbus Terrance D. Spoken word by Shirley Chisholm at Greenfield High School Auditorium in 1983, provided by Greenfield Community College. First performance of There is a Time, April 20, 1956 at The Juilliard School of Music by the José Limón Dance Company The entire work is, both choreographically and musically, a theme with variations. The choreographer used as his theme a large circle, which, at the opening of the work, fills the stage and moves majestically as if to evoke the interminable passage of time. This circle is seen repeatedly in many guises, rhythms and dramatic shapes, always making allusion to the text from Chapter 3 of Ecclesiastes and its evocation of human experience. *Meditations on Ecclesiastes, commissioned for José Limón by The Juilliard Music Foundation and its Festival of American Music, April 1956. This score earned the composer the Pulitzer Prize in 1957. Meditations on Ecclesiastes © 1959 by Carl Fischer, Inc.

Exquisite Shorts // Volume 1

Welcome to Exquisite Shorts! A collaborative filmmaking game by Ben Fee. Exquisite Shorts—adapted from the drawing game “Exquisite Corpse”—is the direct product of missing making films with friends and peers. Each of the 19 filmmakers or duos was given two words to be spoken, shown, or both—one for the beginning of their own film and one for the end. Nobody knew what the other words or segments were. Each segment’s second word is the following segment’s first word, and so on and so forth, making the films connect fluidly in a stream of consciousness—creating this anthology of diverse visual flavors. Enjoy our maiden voyage!
